timing chain length

Postby CAMO » Mon Mar 19, 2012 8:29 am

if anyone knows what should be the accurate timing chain length in the V6 4.0-VQ40de?

My mechanic says it is stretched by a car driven 60 000 miles

I'm not sure on the length, but 60,000 miles sounds like the replacement schedule for a timing BELT not a timing CHAIN.

Your mechanic doesn't know what he's talking about. Yes, chains stretch over time, but there is a tensioner that prevents it from causing any problems.

Yes. me too i think that's funny diagnosis. that's why I want to check the length of my chain, and compare these to the correct length. Mechanic says the tensioner is extremely extended and the chain needs to be replaced.

In Europe is a very unusual engine. Pathfinders are sold here only with a diesel engine. Here it is difficult to find a mechanic who knows about VQ40De

I measured the length of my chain and is 66.5 cm (26.2 in)
