Well, Some nice man decided to slide into my truck and leave

Postby dared3vil00 » Mon Mar 19, 2012 10:24 pm

So folks, this is why i don't like driving my truck in icy conditions. I take a buddy and we go skiing to a local resort today, And the drive up was unpleasant (read: FUN FUN FUN) a there was ALOT of snow on the road, I got to test out my new LTX's in the snow and while they don't grip like the BFG AT's, they sure do quite well for how quiet they are.

ANYWAYS, We get back to the truck and i can't help but notice a large dent and scrapes with white paint in them on my right passenger side fender! Shit.
Anyways, i'll upload pictures in a bit, but for a dent maybe 4 inches tall by 5 inches wide, and scratches maybe a foot long, what would i be looking at to get this repaired? Or would it be cheaper to replace the whole panel? NOTE: pics are up. (link in the next post down)

EDIT: (PICS UP) http://s1174.photobucket.com/albums/r610/dared3vilo/
NOTE: on the first picture, with the shiny straight looking bar thing, it's just a straight peice of metal tubing held against the truck to give an idea of how deep the dent is. I looked underneath aswell and there is NO damage underneath.

What's your deductible with your insurance? I think you will be spending more than 300 to fix that. It looks like it made a crease with the dent, which makes it harder than just a dent pull. I bet you are close to 800 for the repair and paint match. Sucks that people do this. They would be pissed if someone did it to their car.

This one cost about $500 US to fix on the Xterra. Very modern body shop & I was amazed at what they can do these days. Paint is a metallic flake & was matched perfectly.

Thanks guys, I'm taking it in to a few body shops to get an estimate today. Just not something i'd want to tackle myself.

Well, I got a lucky break i think, I went to my mechanic to get a few suggestions about what to condition my leather seats with (they're in need of a good cleaning/conditioning), aswell as ask about were he thought i should get the damage to the fender repaired, and he suggested this autobody shop down the road, I took it in and they quoted me at $600. They explained that while EVERY other shop wanted to repaint the whole bumper (and i kid you not one wanted to paint the whole side of the truck) they said they can just buff out the Minor scratches on the bumper. along with repairing the fender properly. They seemed honest, and upon my request they were more than happy to show me around their shop, It seemed very up to date and shockingly well kept. I took a look at a few jobs they're doing atm and they looked great. I will report on the work they do some time next week, as they don't have an opening until monday.

Nice. Glad you were able to find a location that was willing to do good work for minimal cost. :D

WOW looks good. Pics coming. And Marc, when it comes to autobody repairs, 600 is incredible minor. Simply replacing a dented bumper can cost upwards of 1500.

Not entirely sure if that link will work. Using my phone as I'm at school so let me know if the link works.

NOTE: The scratches on the bumper, right next to the panel seam I knowingly had NOT done as they said they needed to reprint the bumper. So I'll use some touch up paint on those. The repairing of the bumper was out of my budget for this.
