Dude, seriously? Ever heard of Ford Explorers and tire tread separation?

You show me a tire that will have "fine" tread after 80,000 MILES.

Alright you win. Appreciate the concern. I'll start pricing them out

Yeah, good decision. I'm not trying to "win" anything, I'm legitimately looking out for your safety because in all honesty, those are a quite dangerous at that mileage. The tread could separate as Terry said. Imagine this; Your cruising down the highway, not a worry in the world. Your tire blows out/Tread separates due to the extreme overuse, You're more than likely DEAD. If you're looking for a quiet great handling tire with surprisingly good snow/mud characteristics, while not being a hardcore off road'er i would highly suggest Michelin LTX AT2's. If you want something more aggressive, BFG AT TA's are the way to go. Get SOMETHING in the way of tires sooner rather than later.

It blows my mind with the mileages you guys are reporting from your tires. I have never done more than 35k on a set of BFG AT's. Once the BFG wear out a bit, I've found they become quite useless. I would be shocked & amazed to get 40k out of a set of tires...any tires. Are you guys running them until they are bald? How much tread do you end up with at the end before replacement? I typically replace mine when they get down to between 4 and 6/32", which are too bald for me at that point (no more bite for anything offroad, great hydroplaning in the rain, uncontrollable skis in the snow).

Just thought I should point out, these AT's were ones I bought in the 90's for an 86 jimmy. The last set for the pathfinder lasted me 60,000KM. I'm guessing the rubber was much harder on the older ones.

It's all about proper tire inflation and routine tire rotation and balancing. And having a good quality tire to start with never hurts. I'm just speaking from my experience. When I bought my Pathfinder it had a set of BFGoodrich Long Trail tires. They had good tread but already had some bad wear patterns from overinflation. I ran those tires for 40k miles until I replaced them due to uneven tire wear. Tread was still 6 or 7/32's at some points but the noise and vibration was getting annoying. I only rotated them twice during those 40k miles. So if these tires had been properly inflated and rotated I don't see why they couldn't last 60 or 70k. That's what I'm hoping to get out of my new Michelins with a 70k mile warranty. I am definitely rotating these on time.

Since we are sharing tire stories....I had a Surburban once that had Michelin LTX's and when I sold it with 80k+ miles, it still had decent tread on them...that's what my PF has on it now.
