Roof rack

Postby Gray » Sun Apr 13, 2008 1:10 am

Just wondering if any here have done an a/b/a type fuel economy check to see how much of a mpg hit we are taking at highway speeds with roof racks installed.

GB I can't imagine there would be much of a MPG hit with or without the roofrack installed. At least not enough to justify taking the roof rack off just for the sake of 1 MPG difference. IF it's even that great.

Thanks OPF, from Carl's rear deflector thread I was surprised that about a 1.5 mpg fuel comsumption increase was seen. I think that roof top add-ons give a couple of different negative results, one from their added size but also from changing the size and shape of the drag area at the back of the vehicle.

As an aside I wonder how much the rear mud flaps affect the size of the rear drag area of the PF. :| I don't recall seeing huge mudflaps on aerodynamic vehicles.
