Hood vibrations?!?!?

Postby Mr Mayor » Wed Apr 16, 2008 8:04 pm

My 2008 Pathie hood vibrates.. it drives me nuts, only on the drivers side. I do run a NON factory bug sheild, but removed it to test. SAME issue.. I also adjusted the rubber stopper in and out.... help!

Oh, and.... (whistling into air)... it only happens at 75mph+, Nooo, I dont do a frikkin hundred, but yes, 80mph during my 35 mile commute is not uncommon.. HELL if purple haired little old lady in the Buick LeBoat can do it with ONLY her hair and knuckles showing, then so can I...

Anyone else??

Checked your latch adjustment? 8)

This hood is like a rock as far as any speed I've ever done, probably 110 or so.

Ours vibrates too. Drives us nuts. Had in to the dealer twice and they can't find anything. I'll check the latch too GB.

I've seen mine ripple from high speeds but it doesn't vibrate.
Did you check the rubber height adjustment bumpers? your hoods line up with the fenders or do they seem depressed?

I took mine into the dealer and they fixed it... for about an hour, then everything was back to normal. So living on a farm, and having a shop, I pulled out the ole "Fluid Film" I sprayed it on all the rubber stops and the latches. And the result... 1 month later, no hood vibrations and noise.

Maybe try it and see what happens.

Mine flutters too. I played with the rubber snubbers, but they didn't do anything. So I loosened the latch itself and shoved it all the way down. This helped a lot. I kept the snubbers right where they were so that the latch pulls harder down, and the snubbers are pushing harder up. It still flutters a little, but not as much.

Mine does the same flutter on the driver's side, but I try not to let it get to me. Haven't done anything with adjustments yet.

Finally! Someone else mentioned it. I noticed it the first day I drove home from the dealer on the freeway...

Honestly, I haven't experienced this yet. Then again, I haven't been looking for it either. I tagged a guy a few months back, necessitating the replacement of the front bumper, and nothing more. Following that, (and possibly going back to day-one with my PF), I had to correct a slight hood misalignment by adjusting both rubber snubs/bumpers (the hood sat lower than the fenders at the leading edge). It seems to fit right and hold tightly at the 80mph I normally drive, so I guess all is good.

Ok, it's nearly fixed! 90% better! Adjusted the hood latch lower, and adjusted the snubbers a half turn at a time... Had the bugger up to 90 and the hood barely budged!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, spot on!

Yeah, I'm usually pretty obsessive about those things too...but all you can do is make one step at a time.

Actually I can't say that I honestly haven't thought about it...I did look under the hood at the stops but couldn't find anything obviously wrong, so I didn't give it more than 5 minutes.

My 2008 hood flutters a bit - no noise though. It is just a thin guage light weight hood - it will probably always do that with enough wind.

You should be looking at your hood while driving anyway...
