They transverse mounted the VQ35DE, like in an Altima, so I wouldn't expect a V8 to ever be an option in it.

I would certainly not expect them to offer a V8 in this class. There's really no reason for one since the towing is limited to 5,000#.

Some press I saw said it's not 2wd, it's FWD, and it's not 4x4, it's AWD, and it has a CVT transmission. Can you say Murano with a 3rd row? :P

Regardless of what Nissan is calling it (4wd, 2wd) it's certainly closer to a Murano than the current PF. Given the fact that the Murano is smaller yet more expensive than the PF....and it outsells the PF by more than 2-1....do the math. There's just not enough of us that want a real 4x4 in this size vehicle.

The pendulum will swing back again some day, when off-road abilities are again more cool from a marketing standpoint (even though most people won't use it still) than MPG. Until then we have our R51s, we just need to try our best to help our new (R52?) brothers and sisters enjoy and modify their rides without snickering too much...

You can also thank the govt as CAFE requirements are limiting what manufacturers can build...whether we want it or not. The same thing is happening with electricity and their war on coal (and natural gas as soon as coal is taken out of the equation).

The new Pathfinder will certainly help the few remaining mfrs of true 4x4 SUVs. Even more so if they end up dumping the X.

In my neck of the woods/desert, I'd have to say there are far more burly, overpriced, crappy MPG pickups being driven than SUVs. Maybe we'll end up with only car based crossovers, Jeep Wranglers and pickups in the end.

Steve,

I know what you mean. There are tons of lifted show trucks all over and I'd say 95% of them never even see a dirt road.

I think I know why Nissan has only shown the PF from a couple angles.... The pics from C&D are not very flattering.

As I said, before, I got a good look of the "sister" Infiniti JX and I thought it was a nice vehicle...just not a "Pathfinder" or what a Pathfinder "should be in my opinion as well as most of us current and former Pathfinder owners. Sorta like when Pontiac put the LeMans logo on the Kia they marketed years ago or when Ford tried to put the Mustang name on what eventually became the "Probe." If they named it "Murano XL," no one would be complaining nor would they be gettiing so much bad press, except for that for the demise of the Pathfinder they no longer would offer. At least we still have the Xterra, for now.

Thanks for the link. I hate it even more now thanks to those photos, which I didn't think was possible. If I wanted a large car, I'd personally look elsewhere. Not a fan of the cookie cutter shape of the new Pathfinder & all the other clones.

As I've mentioned numerous times already, my fingers are crossed & I'm holding out hope that the X will continue. If it gets discontinued/wussified like the Pathfinder, I won't know what the hell to do.

My wife says based on those pics, it's not in the running for her. Pretty bad when you can't compete with someone driving a van.
