Poltergeist in taillights

Postby crbell10 » Fri Jun 19, 2015 7:49 am

I have a 1990 Pathfinder. I was in the garage last night about 8pm and Pathfinder was fine. 2 hours later I went to the garage and noticed the taillights on. It appears that BOTH the brake lights and taillights are on constantly. The only way to get them to turn off was to disconnect the battery. Any ideas on the cause?

Could also be the little rubber bumper thing that engages the brake pedal switch. Mine disintegrated so the brake light was permanently on and that ended up killing the battery. Raided the junk yard and now there's three or four of the things floating around in the car somewhere.

My mechanic removed the switch and it was kinda sticking. Replaced the switch and still had the problem. Turned out to be the little rubber thingy on the brake pedal which had just fallen into many pieces. He replaced it with a plastic push pin and it works fine. Thanks for the help.
