Hello :)

My little brother just purchased an 88 Pathfinder, and it needs a few things to get her beautiful. With 180k miles on the machine, we knew we would have to give her some TLC and then some.

Unfortunately, the major problem is as follows:

The engine starts fun, but needs continual pressing of the gas in order to continue running. I.e. there is No idle.

Any speculation as to what the problem might be? Any help or suggestions is much appreciated!

My 91 had the same issue and for me it boiled down to needing a radiator. It wasn't pressurizing the system. And a crack in the exahast between the O2 sensors.

I had an 89 Navara/harbody 4x4 with a Z24 engine.. My guess is the points, rotor and cap. Rather cheap to replace and it will love you for it (mine needed replacing every 10,000km). I suggest changing the spark plugs and wires regularly too. Fuel/gas filter, air filter and oil + filter change would be good maintenance to keep on top of.
