Throttle position sensor

Postby winndixie21 » Sat Oct 26, 2013 4:24 pm

I had a TPS that would go dead in certain throttle positions like at the sweet spot at 55-60 mph or at times when you changed gears and got back on the throttle !
So I ordered a factory Nissan TPS and installed it in same position as the old one... OK dead spot fixed runs great on the road now, but it idles now at 1200 - 1400 rpm since installing the TPS.
I was thinking that the tps should not effect idle rpm's !? Anyone got any suggestions ? It idled at around 650-700 before tps.

It can cause a high idle. Adjust it per the service manual procedure. Make sure the throttle body and plate are clean and the engine is warmed up to normal operating temperature before you adjust it.

Thanks, I did the factory service manual adjust procedure today with the meter and it did not help any, the strange part is it did not do it until I changed the tps ! I will have to get deeper into it , it solved the initial problem of the dead spot so I guess it has not been a total loss =/

Try adjusting the ignition timing and base idle per the service manual procedure if the have the VG30E engine. Disconnecting the TPS is the way to put the ECM into a set mode to adjust timing and base idle. The base idle adjustment is critical to the proper operation of the IACV-AAC valve. I'm wondering if someone tried to make adjustment with the faulty TPS and now that a properly working TPS is in place, the idle is now higher? It's a stretch, but worth trying. If you have the VG30i engine, disregard.

I did another computer reset and then done the base idle procedure and set timing @ 15 BTC and she now idlles @ 700 and idles smoother than before.
Thanks SMJ for steering me in the right direction again, life is sweet.
