Replacing a 96 transmission?

Postby VFQuake » Thu Feb 20, 2014 9:01 pm

I'm picking up a 96 R50 for about 600 bucks. The body is next to perfect, the motor runs strong, but needs a battery(possibly alternator), but the tranny has no reverse, and on occasion shifts rough when in drive.

I saw that I can pick up a used tranny with 65k from Ebay for about 300 bucks, and I'm willing to do the labor myself, I was just wondering if anyone had a detailed guide for these specific vehicles on removing/replacing the tranny. Thanks for reading.

Ummm. See the "pulling engine/tranny" thread. Just a tranny swap won't be too bad

Make sure you have a good transmission jack because that sucker is heavy, especially with the transfer case attached! Also, make sure you have enough room to tilt the trans/engine assembly down so you can get to the upper bellhousing bolts; you'll need some long extensions and a 14MM swivel socket.
