P0171 Code Fixed

Postby Oleschool » Sun Jul 20, 2014 10:23 am

I have been driving with the CEL on because I couldn't figure out what was causing a bunch of codes.I can't remember all of them but there was a Lean condition Bank 1,Lean Condition Bank 2, P0325 Knock Sensor and a couple for the catalytic's being out of range.Pardon the crude description but I can't remember the exact wording.

Long story short, there was a U-shaped hose connected to the drivers side upper intake with a huge crack in it.I'm assuming this created a huge vacuum leak which I'm surprised I never heard. The connector at the intake is a check valve as well as a hose to thread adapter. This check valve was full of oily carbon like residue.I was able to use a chunk of 5/8" heater hose(temporarily) as a replacement, and I cleaned the check valve. I cleared the codes and drove the truck around without them coming back.Normally the codes and CEL would return immediately. The other thing as the truck had no power and would ping any time a load was put on the engine. It now pulls hard(as hard as a 3.3 can) and doesn't ping.

I'm going to order a proper replacement today and hope this ends my CEL woes.

BTW the knock sensor code still remains.I replaced and relocated it without any luck.I was given some tips to look for a broken or grounded wire, but thats next I guess.

I don't know how to post pictures on this forum. Here's a link to the split hose.

Here's a picture of the temporary fix that's keeping me going until my new hose arrives.
