I have been trying to figure this out for some time and unsure what to check or what it could be. I have a 98 Pathfinder with 194,XXX on it. It burns a little oil but overall it runs like a champ. Tons of power and very quiet too. Since I have moved from Colorado to las Vegas I have noticed that a loud clunk noise comes from the engine. Here is all the things behind it.
Only does it when the engine and the outside is HOT. Almost never does it at night.
Sounds like its coming from the crank and or transmission but only makes a noise, no issues with performance or anything.
Tried some additives and seems to work for like an hour and then comes back. The noise will go away when the engine cools down. Did a trip to colorado from las vegas and back and NEVER made the sound. It ONLY happens when the engine and outside temp is hot. Never over heats. I am lost for words. Any ideas?
