2000 Pathfinder

Postby snuffy19608 » Sun Oct 12, 2014 9:12 pm

I'm looking at a 2000 Pathfinder, 220.000 miles, 3.3L, 5 speed manual, slight rust on both drivers side fenders, gear shift knob loose.

Dealer wants $2950, is this a good deal and what should I be looking for if I test drive it.

Average trade in value is about $1000. Clean retail is around $3000-$3200. It's hard to give you a value without seeing the car in person. If you have rust on the fenders, I would say the price is on the high side. Check out the front strut towers for rust, as they sometimes will rust through; there is a current recall on the issue. Take it for a test drive at highway speeds and check for a loose or wobbly rear suspension, as the rear suspension link bushings are a common failure. Timing belt is due at 105,000 miles, so it should be on it's third one. You'll want to know when it was changed because it is an interference engine. Check for oil leaking at the bottom of the transmission bellhousing, valve covers and from behind the rear timing cover (cam seals). I always recommend having an independent mechanic of your choosing check over the vehicle before you lay out the cash.
