PCV Valve

Postby NorCal » Mon Nov 17, 2014 8:41 pm

Question: Does one have to remove the valve cover to replace said valve on a 2002 SE 4x4? As always, thank you all for your help/advice.

No, it doesn't have to be removed. You'll have to remove the decorative, plastic engine cover. Here's a link that shows it's location:

SMJ,

Thank you, Sir! I didn't think you would need to. However, I read a previous thread on this forum where a person said that he/she went to replace the pcv valve, only to find out that that the valve cover needed to come off to do so, which he or she did. Question: The insulator (Part#11810E) that the PCV valve fits into, how is that secured to the valve cover? Does it slide into the cover from the top (press fit), or is it held in place via hardware from within the valve cover itself? And, my last question: Is it a good idea to replace the insulator along with the pcv valve? Thanks again for all you technical advice.

It wouldn't hurt to replace it and should just push into the valve cover from the outside. I believe on some of the VQ engines (might be the VQ40DE, but I'm not sure off the top of my head) the PCV comes into the valve cover from the back, which might be the reason they needed to remove the valve cover. Honestly, I didn't replace very many PCV valves when I worked for Nissan. They rarely went bad and usually when they did, it was because the owner didn't change their oil and it gunked up the valve.

SMJ,

Thanks of the info. I'm gonna just go ahead and swap it out as well.
