98 exhaust options

I am new to the forum and wondering what some of your have done with different exhaust systems? We dont have exhaust checks here in Michigan so i could possibly remove the catalytic converters if I need to, but I am not sure if it would be a good idea or how feasible it would be. The rest of the system is a little shaky, i am getting weird noises from the mufflers, it sounds like there is some loose baffles. I was thinking of replacing the whole system. Is there anything available that would work for this that would sound better than stock?
