1999 3.3Auto Engine swap into a 97 Manual issues

Postby 99MNpath » Sun Jun 07, 2015 11:50 am

I took the motor out of a 1999 3.3 and put in it my 97 5 speed..

The motor is all bolted in and wired up, when I put the key in I hear relays freaking out and when I turn the key to start I get a click then silence.. No crank, No dash lights

What am I missing?

Thanks
-Brian

I have dash lights and strong headlights/tail lights until I turn the key to start all goes black I get a click at the starter (only on first try) then nothing and the dash lights are dim acting like a dead battery...
If I disconnect and reconnect the Battery it resets...
Does the 97 ecu work for a 99 motor!? It should.
Is my starter wire crossed?

What the heck!!

Let me know what to check...

Sounds like either you are grounding something out when you turn the key or the computer isn't compatible.

Thanks for the reply.

Here is an update, I thought about it and I decided to put a ground strap from the starter to the chassis. Now when I turn the key I here a loud click. Sounds like the starter is engaging but not turning over.. I put a socket on the crank shaft and could not turn over by hand while in neutral..

Shoot! I had to move the slave feed line to access the starter.. The system needs to be bled to disengage the clutch..

I have the battery ground to the alternator bracket.. When is it supposed to go?

Gosh I hope a 99 motor will work in a 97 I sold the auto ecu on eBay already!

The first time you went to start it did it make any different noise(s). If you can't turn the motor over by hand then something obviously is binding. Any chance the starter gear has extended and the gear has engaged the flywheel teeth at a screwy angle and now its stuck?
Try tapping on the starter with a hammer a few times.

Hey guys, ok. I got a new battery in. When all the electrical is tight the locks, lights and ignition work. The click sounds like the armature extends and binds.. The motor is locked up.. I think by the clutch.. Tried bleeding it a few ways with no luck..

Having a buddy come over tonight to try bleeding again.

Wow I need some help...

Blah the swap was done in less than a week but I have spent more than that amount of time trying to fix this leaking clutch hydrolic line..
Still leaks but finally got enough pressure to actuate the slave and my motor still won't turn over., the starter clicks like it's engaging.. I put a socket on the crank shaft and had a buddy push the clutch it does not spin., what did I fudge during the swap to cause this binding?

Changed the starter awhile ago, same thing.I hope the bellhousing doesn't have to be seperated again. What else could it be ... Motor spun during instal of the motor .. Now all the way in its stuck

Well something must be binding. Still won't turn even if you have the trans in neutral? I have like zero experience with this. That starter thing that someone brought up earlier makes sense though. If you remove the starter does the engine spin? Otherwise maybe clutch assembled incorrectly and won't actuate?

I got it started, I had not put the starter bracket back. Acts like a spacer. Starts and runs great. Only current issue is my slave cylinder banjo bolt is stretched and leaks.. I used a few different brass washers still leaks.. Where can I get a replacement salve banjo bolt??

You can order it from Nissan. Should cost you about $6 with the washers:

Slave cylinder banjo bolt, P/N: 46356-0E00A
Washers, P/N: 46237-A4600 (two required)
