3.5 vq weird intermittent starting problem, HELP

Postby BuckPath01 » Tue Dec 21, 2010 9:14 am

Sometimes when starting my 01 it turns over totally normal and then it feels like the starter freezes for a sec then catches again. I don't have to return the key or anything it just kinda skips a beat. Sounds weird I know. It is similar to starting a car with a weak battery. But no battery problems. I had an 00 maxima vq30 did the same thing and it was every 2 weeks just like the path. 99% of the time it's perfect but once in a while when it does it, it freaks me out like it's not gonna turn over. I would think it's the starter but I replaced the starter on the max and still did it. It must be a common vq problem because both cars symptoms are identical. I'm now thinking maybe ignition coils. Any suggestions appreciated. Pics coming soon. New to pathfinder ( totally obsesed) long time Nissan fan ( except for my maxima's reAr f-In quarter panels rusting, corrosion resistant dura steel my ass)

I have the same issue with my 02 Pathfinder, 122K miles. I replaced the battery but still getting the intermittent "weak start".

Same here, just thought it was a bad connection on the batt terminal because it's so intermittent.

I took my Pathfinder into the shop and it turns out there was a leak in the fuel damper. Hopefully that helps.
