which is the correct way to use my remote start fob

I have a simple remote FOB for my Nissan it has 3 button lock ,unlock and panic.
I found 2 articles in the how to site and there is a slight difference in button selection and holding down a button to start , one article says to push the lock button twice within 3 seconds and it should start, the other says to push lock once then push lock again but [hold] it down until the car starts ,, they both work how ever on a cold day the first option click twice on the lock button didn't want to start the car so which is correct click twice or click twice and hold?
