Idle Issue

Hey Guys,
I own a 98 LE 4X4 w/ 86,000 miles.

My pathy idles at 1500 (not sure if that's OK or not) but when ever I start her or give her gas while in park the idle will bounce 1 or 2 times between 1500 and 1900 before settling back at 1500.

I'm guessing from what I have read that is could be a dirty throttle chamber. I have read plenty of posts that say how to clean it but then I ran across one that said I would have to perform a throttle position relearn. Is this true?
Is it easy to do for a novice back yard mechanic?

Any other ideas as to what can be the problem? Wanting to eliminate the the cheap before the expensive stuff!
