"Clunk" type sound...

Postby kegomatix » Sun Apr 29, 2012 3:46 pm

I've got a 2003 Pathy LE 4x4 3.5L motor. I'll try to describe whats going on.. At speeds above about 50mph if I let off the gas completely and let the rpms settle down, then step on the gas quickly, I get a loud clunking noise coming from the back. It's pretty loud, I can feel it as well. I also get the same kind of noise/feel if I go over a bump (like a speed bump) kind of fast. The only thing I can think is that it's the rear struts, like every time I hit the gas hard it is torquing the rear axle in a way that makes the noise thru the struts. But I would think it would make the noise no matter what speed I hit the gas. Any help/advice, would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like a u-joint to me. Very common. Search theforum for a description on how to fix.
