Driving in the snow/ice AUTO, 4HI, or 4LO

Postby jasondavid08 » Wed Oct 23, 2013 12:18 pm

2002 Pathinder LE, 135k. Ok, so I have had my pathfinder for eleven years now and I love it. HOWEVER, being from Texas I never really know the best option for the snow and ice during ski trips.
Last year, I kept it in 4LO.
Two years ago, I kept it in 4HI.
Looking around the internet, most people say to keep it in AUTO.
HELP!
I keep it in 2wd all the time, unless the streets flood with rushing mud (common in my city), then I switch to AUTO...but I have no idea what the right answer is for the snow and ice.

SO...snow and ice:
AUTO?
4HI?
4LO?
Why?
Thanks in advance!

There's info in your owner's manual about the different modes. There's also a good thread in the R51 section regarding the "AUTO" mode which should be relevant to you:
