brake upgrade

Postby nutbar78 » Thu Sep 08, 2011 7:11 pm

Anybody do any type of brake upgrade on these trucks?

Rotors/pads?

I bled my brakes last weekend because I felt like the pedal travels a little farther than I am used to (coming from a car). It's only slightly better now. I know this truck has that electronic brake force distribution. Anybody feel the same way?

Well it definately doesnt stop as fast as a car but I recently replaced the front pads and rotors and they seem to work good for me. Maybe try replacing the brake lines if they are still mushy and your sure there is no air in the system?

Did you upgrade the pads or rotors or stick with stock parts?

i'm interested in doing this as well.

my fronts are a little warped (a little shimmy in the steering wheel when braking at any speed) and was thinking about trying to upgrade. but then i think i'd have to upgrade the rears as well so i can try to avoid the nose dive in heavy braking (which is usually the case with me).

so, anyone use anything other than stock/oem replacements?

im a bit overdue for my brake replacement. i have the parts... i just need to install them.

based on some favorable reviews here, i ended up going with the rabestos heavy duty rotors and pads from rock auto.

part nos:
Rotors:
980370
980462

Pads:
ATD1094C (AT-D1094C)
ATD1101C (AT-D1101C)

about $310 shipped

I just ordered EBC Green Stuff 7000 pads for the front, 6000 pads for the rears, and new EBC rotors all the way around as well. The parts should be in tomorrow, and I will let you know once they are installed and I have flushed the brake fluid. I also ordered Rancho 9000XL shocks and struts, and will have them installed at the same time. I drive an '06 Pathfinder with 142K miles.

I replaced my fronts with EBC slotted rotors /w Green Stuff pads. The rears I went with EBC Utilimax Rotors and Pads. I liked them so much I put them on My girlfriend's Legacy which was rear ended (totalled) by an inattentive teen driver not 3 days later... she loved her brakes for 3 days.

Just ordered OEM pads, rotors, and hardware. Originals lasted me 90k with what I thought was enough stopping power, so I'm not going to mess with aftermarket fit/function/life risk.

OEM is not an upgrade, and the life risk comment is a little over the top.

If you bled your brakes I'm assuming you have the ODBII/Brake tool?

gee wally...........
i see nothing wrong with anyone expressing their confidence in OEM vs aftermarket in this thread
Fofiddy wrote: relevancy; your doing it wrong
it's irrelevant and wrong to choose OEM over aftermarket?
some aftermarket components are good, some are crap, but how is it wrong to go with something that has worked well for you, rather than experiment with something you may not be satisfied with? :o

The title of the thread is "Brake Upgrade" not "I changed my Brakes".
OEM is fine; Nissan felt that it provided the right blend of cost efficiency and performance to be a play with the other vehicles in its segment.
Unfortunately Nutbar78's Post wasn't "do you think I should upgrade my brakes?" Doctahjones also was interested in hearing other people's experiences
so, anyone use anything other than stock/oem replacements?
Coming from someone who didn't replace their OEM hardware with any aftermarket gear could come off as a little, unqualified/dismissive. Unqualified because there is no personal experience listed to back up the statement. It’s also dismissive because the OP’s genuine safety concern was regarding pedal travel and not some inferior rotor fragging or some other alarmism.

So, how is an ODBII/Brake/ABS tool relevant?
Well, because I bled my brakes and experienced similar symptoms. It was a purge on the ABS solenoid that resolved my particular issue. To do that I needed the ODBII/ABS tool that I improperly referred to as an ODBII/Brake tool last night.
