AC vent weirdness...

Postby RacerZX » Thu Jun 29, 2006 9:50 am

When my AC system is heating, therefore directing air to the feet only, I get some hot air bleeding out of the left dash air vent, toasting my left hand while driving. Very annoying. Anybody else get this? It doesn't happen on the center two dash air vents, and yes I can close the offending vent by hand with that little dial, but I really shouldn't have to. If it's set to blow on my feet it should be doing that, not leeking air out other vents.

It might be on to defrost the side windows. I usually have it pointed that way anyway.

No, there is a seperate little vent there for defrosting the windows, so I don't think that's it. Can somebody please try it and see if they find the same problem?

From the service manuals posted in the 'sticky' part of this board:

Head = 95% head, 5% foot

Head/Foot = 60% head, 40% foot

Foot = 20% head, 55% foot, 25% defrost

Defrost/Foot = 15% head, 50% foot, 35% defrost

Defrost = 7% head, 15% foot, 78% defrost

and it says "Airflow always present at driver and passenger side demisters"

okay, so this is a really old post, but this same issue has been bugging the crap out of me for weeks.

glad to see there is an explanation for why my left hand has heat blowing on it constantly... to bad their isnt an explanation as to why the hell the nissan engineers decided this would be a good idea. :roll:

I get this too, but It has never been a problem as I actually like a little coming out.

I wondering if switching the air flow from fresh to recycled would help. I know it cuts air circulation to the vents when the system is off, so perhaps it works when the system is in use as well.

I actually like it. On a cold day, it is nice to have that vent towards the steering wheel. When it gets warm enough, I just close that vent since it has a close off knob anyway.
I also think it would aid in defrost of the drivers window on frosty days way better than the little defrost vent alone.
