installed cai.... what now?

Postby ValleyWalker » Tue Oct 20, 2015 7:19 pm

Ok so I've installed it, took the Neg. wire off the battery for 15 mins. Put the Neg. wire back on the batt. and it started after 9 attempts. I left it run for about 15 mins. but did not drive it. Turned it off.

Later, it would not start. But, if I unplug the mas airflow sensor wires from the airflow's aluminum tube. Once unplugged, she started right up.
???

So, I now have had the Neg. wire off the battery for about an hour but it still wouldn't start unless I unplugged that mas sensor.
I unplugged that mas sensor, started the car, plugged the mas sensor back in, then drove it around the block. I think I need to drive it longer...?
Here are my pics

The circles below are,(from left to right) factory hose to be replaced by new one included in cai kit, another oem hose that will not be connected to anything?, and the mas airflow sensor to be plugged into new air pipe.

This cai kit came with new mas airflow sensor screws which were already in their spot. Remove them with a magnetized head so as not to lose them!

Here's that other hose that I have no idea what to do with... anyone?

Although using the 'brackets' that came with this kit was possible, I'm not a huge fan of the way this looks...
I used the factory bolt here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/bnbcos94zy46e6d/17.jpg?dl=0

This kit came with two straight pieces and two L-shaped bars. I placed my L-shaped bracket between the aluminum airflow pipe and the rubber seal of the filter. The hose clame tightens this up nicely. I decided later to place this L-bracket between the rubber seal and the hose clamp.

I used the 2 bolts that came with this kit at #'s 1 and 3 but found another bolt in my bin to use in the center #2 shown below

Replace the mas airflow sensor careful not to loose the screws. Again, I don't really like this bracker thingy but it'll work for now.

Between disconnecting the battery and replacing the air intake system, you likely need to do an idle air relearn, which may be the reason it's stalling.

Fixed!!!!

Postby ValleyWalker » Wed Oct 21, 2015 7:08 am

Ok.... I had the MAS (or is it MAF) airflow sensor facing the wrong direction against the flow of air.
Basically, the sensor only plugs in one way. So I had to rotate the 2nd pipe so that the sensor was on the Right side allowing the sensor to correctly measure the airflow!
Yes! mods are (eh-hem) wonderful

Engine Light is now coming on...

Postby ValleyWalker » Sat Oct 24, 2015 12:21 pm

Any idea why my engine light keeps coming on now?
No I don't know the code its' putting out yet - will check later.

But I wanted to ask if anyone could tell me what the smaller hose that came off my oem setup was supposed to go to in the new setup? The large hose in the left circle goes to the the top of my engine, the maf sensor plugs in to new pipe, but there's a 2nd smaller hose (seen best here in center circle: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g107alsatxwt843/05.jpg?dl=0) that does not seem to have a home.

The smaller hose in the middle is a vent hose for the front differential. It just sits the way it is and doesn't plug into anything.

Vent hose

Postby ValleyWalker » Sun Oct 25, 2015 5:28 am

It was plugged into the old air intake pipe. I've got it kinda hooked onto the anti-lock brake pipes so it doesn't fall downward and drag.
seen here circled in red https://www.dropbox.com/s/uo8fcfpp7ium4tz/23.jpg?dl=0

Should I do anything with it?[/url]

Interesting, because on my 06, it isn't connected to the air intake. It just sits, disconnected, near the air box. If it does go down to the differential, it's just a vent and it should be fine how you have it. Speaking of air box, I hope you have one to put around your air filter, otherwise you'll be sucking in hot air from the engine compartment...and technically not a "cold" air intake. If you look at the Nismo, Air Raid and K&N kits, they all have a box to isolate the air filter from the engine compartment. Even the factory air box is technically a "cold air intake," as it draws air from outside the hot engine compartment. The system you have would probably offer a lot less air restriction, but the air is drawing it directly from the engine compartment is hot and may actually be detrimental to performance rather than enhance it. Air drawn from outside the engine compartment is denser, which is the whole purpose of a CAI system.

box

Postby ValleyWalker » Sun Oct 25, 2015 11:56 am

I was wondering about that! Ok so how do I get a box now since this one didn't come w/ one, lol. I'll ask the seller if they offer one.
Thanks!!

Error Code

Postby ValleyWalker » Sun Nov 01, 2015 7:38 am

I stopped by auto store and was told the code is the Air Flow Sensor. I know it's installed facing in the right direction. When installed incorrectly the car just won't stay running),
Anyway, my mpg is way down as well. Not sure what's wrong. Any help?

Who makes this intake kit? I want to make sure I don't recommend it to anyone!

Ok, does anyone have a recommended solution/fix ?
Keep your negative comments to yourself ladies and gentleman your cunning linguistics won't impress me
My goal is to solve the problem, not quit and go back to stock.

EIEIO.... your name was in caps to stand out, not a denotation of spelling...no disrespect intended.
