U-Joint play - how much is too much?

Postby boontis » Wed Dec 04, 2019 8:59 pm

I've noticed the famous vibration at around 60-80km that appears to be u-joints, so I got underneath to check how much play there is. The front two definitely have play - but I can't quite tell how much. I'd say it feels like maybe a mm or less. But with that said it's definitely moving. The back ones both have zero movement.

Before I order some new joints I just wanted to see if anyone has more info on how much is too much? Could there be something else to check first before replacing them?

Thanks in advance!

If you can feel or see the play in the joint, then it's too much.

If its vibrating that will eventually drive you nutz! I replace mine soon as they start vibrating. My 2006 had gone through a few of these over the years. I wonder if the later years go through them as quick?
