Radio Volume very low? 2005

Postby Pathfinderer » Sun Nov 24, 2019 8:07 am

I bought a 2005 Pathfinder yesterday. First thing I notice is that the radio volume is very low even when at the highest setting, I think it was 35 a highest? I checked the fuses and they are good, I went around the speakers with fade and L/R and they all sound like they are on, but it is low low volume. I read about an amp issue, so I looked under the seat, but there is no amp in this vehicle. Any ideas? I can have a new aftermarket unit installed, but I would prefer to reset or fix the one in it if it is simple enough.

I disconnected the battery for a minute, and still very low volume. I dont think my model has an amp unless it is located somewhere other than under seat.

It could be that the amp in the headunit itself went bad. There is a small one built-into all headunits regardless of make/model which is why sometimes when speakers are upgraded, the sound enhancement is minimal. The headunit limits the power output. Not sure how much a used stock stereo would go for.

What's your trim level (S, SE, LE..) and is it a Bose system?

It is an S model. No Bose. I decided the original radio crapped out, ordered a new one from Crutchfield. New one comes with touchscreen and BU camera as well, all for $150. Doesn't look too hard to install.
