Navigation MAP DVD upgrade

Postby Bandy1080 » Wed Nov 10, 2010 3:35 pm

I have a 2008 and I am looking at upgrading to the 2011 Navigation DVD. I just got a notice in the mail that I can get it from Nissan for $149. Is there anyplace to get it cheaper?

Thanks

I just purchased a 2008 as well and would like to upgrade. Where are you supposed to upgrade it from? Is it a CD upgrade or DVD? Where does the DVD load? The main CD won't accept DVDs.

No. Have not found an upgrade yet. I'm probably going to call/talk to the dealer and see what they say.

We cannot manually upgrade 2008+ Pathfinders. You have to purchase a code from Navteq, bring that to the dealer, and they will upgrade your system.

That sucks. They will want plenty of money for that.

The code is $100 on the Navteq website:

Dealer price varies, but it can't be *that* ridiculous. I emailed my local dealerships for info

100 for a map update is not bad. Let me know how much your dealer charges for the instal. Thanks for the link and the info.

Does 2008+ PF's have different nav than 2006?

For updating the map (on 2006 pathy), just replace the DVD under the passanger seat.

My dealer quoted me $129 to upgrade it in addition to the $99 for Maps on the website.

My question, besides having some roads and locations that weren't listed on my 2008 edition, will I notice anything else different?

Not sure if it is worth the $229.

Yea now that you put a full price on it, 229 is crazy. I can get a Garmin update for cheaper than that. I didn't think they would charge over 100 for the update at the dealer. That's a little excessive.

Since 2008, all pathfinders have hard drive based naviagtion systems. They no longer use DVD's. The dealer will upload the software to the hard drive and thats it. honestly paying over 200 dollars for something any of us can do with instructions is ridiculous.

Check this site for possibilities. (If you don't mind a bit of hacking)

http://gpsunderground.com/forum/

I've updated my portable GPS map files several times over the last few years using it. In fact, it's running a completely different operating system than it came with using info I got from this site.
Don't know if there is anything on there specifically for Nissan nav systems. I just bought a new 2011 SV (no nav) for the wife yesterday and registered on this forum last night.
So I'm just now starting my trip down the Pathfinder path. Looks like this forum may be as good as the one I refer to for my Miata (2003 Shinsen Version)
Hope this helps.
