Anyone have a how-to for a 2005 Rear Strut Replacement?

Postby mario8402 » Mon Jul 08, 2013 9:26 pm

I have searched this forum for hours and cant find anything specific.
How hard is the rear strut install? remove the tire, remove the 2 nuts from the strut, push up on the lower control arm and remove bolts? do i need to compress the spring at all? was hoping to come across a post with a walkthrough with pics but its just not happening :D

The rear isn't a strut like the front, it's a shock absorber. It's super easy. Lift the truck, put a jack under the lower control arm to support it, remove the two bolts, remove and replace the shock.

The front uses struts, and requires a spring compressor. The rear doesn't...

just put Bilsteins on the back of one of mine (one was leaking)...........
the OEM bolts are super-tight!
it took a large assortment of wrenches, sockets, extensions, and breaker bars to access the shock mounting hardware because of rather limited access
use a good dose of penetrant on the hardware before removing it
