2008 LE V8 - Cross contamination confirmed @ 79,500 miles!

Postby perpetual » Fri Sep 06, 2013 9:51 am

I just dropped off my 2008 LE V8 for an oil change and a "check-up" before I cross that 80,000 mile zero-copay mark. My plan was to do the by-pass this weekend after it's given a clean bill of health.

To my surprise, the dealer called me a couple hours later that radiator/transmission cross contamination has been confirmed on my truck at 79,500 miles! I didn't notice anything too unusual with the way how the trans was shifting... it's also been a few weeks since I checked my radiator/trans for the formation of the dreaded "milkshake".

I any case, it sucks that my Pathfinder is now a victim of this well-known Nissan defect, but I'm glad that this all happened until the co-pays kicked in after 80k. The dealer will be replacing the radiator and the transmission (remanufactured unit) free of charge. They even offered me a free loaner vehicle while my Pathfinder was being worked on.

All I can say is WOW... :?

I believe that's the first V8 we've had report with cross-contamination, if I'm not mistaken.

Horrible news. That's terrible to hear. No hope for my 08 LE V8.

I have an 08 SE V6 AT 94K miles. I'm in the process of an extensive tune up including fluids. I came here for guidance and found plenty of that. However I've read about 75% of the famous bypass thread and then found this sub-forum dedicated to the tranny problem. However, I haven't been able to find a specific guide to the 08 bypass which is different than the earlier models due to the tranny cooler being on the drivers side. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think anybody has seriously looked at it because before now we were all praying it wouldn't happen.

The process and locations will be the same, it's just that the serendipitously perfect OEM hose lengths that made the V6 bypass so easy may not be possible, in which case you'll just need some new oil compatible hose.
