FedEx just dropped mine off on my door step this morning... might be a few days before I get it in, but I am really impressed with the quality of construction. Sharp looking CAI... Can't wait to get it installed!

I agree. I have been using a Volant since the day I tried it and suggested by my friend. :D I'd never thought that I could find this great product.

Here's some food for thought, and by all means post your thoughts on the matter. One of the Xterra forums has a thread talking about the stock air filter & housing. In short, if you remove the filter housing lid/cover & the air filter, you'll see a plastic pipe jutting out into the housing. A number of Xterra owners have cut that pipe flush with the walls of the housing. The theory behind it is that the air was only penetrating/flowing through one tiny little spot on the air filter (lots of pictures prove this) in the stock setup. People have mentioned that it does make a nice sound & a few have mentioned a bit more pep on the throttle. The air intake we have is essentially a sealed CAI to begin with, but this mod seems to improve upon it. I have it on my list of things to try, but if anyone else wants to give it a go, by all means post your findings here.

Very nice! I've thought about getting a setup like this for the wife's Pathy.

In theory this would somewhat work in combo with a less restrictive drop in K&N filter. But the Volants intake tube going from the box to the throttle body is smoother and larger than stock, 2.5"dia. ram air port in the box, the hole in the side of the box is the same size as the hole in the fender with a rubber seal (this hole is approx 3"x4"), and it has a much more efficient conical filter vs. a drop in with less surface area. On a budget for a $40 drop in and cut down the fender port would be a slight improvement and be alot better than a K&N FIPK or similar non cold air cold air intakes but wouldnt be near as efficient as the Volant.

PhatFront I'm having the same problem... I've got the stock intake out but can't mount the freakin' horns anywhere with the supplied relocation bracket... Looks like I'll be doing some cutting and splicing, too if I want this thing installed..

Finally got this installed last night... Ended up mounting the horn to the top inside lip of the engine bay compartment right in front of the intake box (factory hole already there).. Still had to shave off a corner of the horn housing with a dremel, but it looks pretty smooth. Very happy with this intake.. Definitely feels a little more peppy, seems to shift smoother, and (most importantly) sounds like a friggin' jet taking off at over 4k RPM. Too soon to see if there was any MPG increase, but will keep an eye on it.. Now for the exhaust!

Hey guys, I'm extrememly interested in this product. I'm also interested in the Hypertech Max Energy programmer. I've been told that some vehicles will get a combustion "knock" when the air volume is increased and the CPU/timing is adjusted.

Have any of you experienced this problem? The reason I mention Hypertech is because I have history with them and they're located 15 minutes from my house.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't noticed anything like that yet... Of course I've only had mine in about a week. One positive change is that I have slightly improved fuel economy. When I calculated it at the pump on Friday I was pleased to find I went from 14.5 mpg (combined driving) to 15.3, and that was with me having a "heavier" foot throughout the week just so I could hear this intake growl...

I've had the Volant in for about a month now and have put about 600 miles on the truck and it appears the ECM has made it's adjustments to the A/F ratio.. i'm now averaging right at 16.3 MPG combined driving and 21.9 highway driving. While I didn't have highway numbers prior to install (I don't do much "true" highway driving at all), my combined driving has increased significantly from the 14.5 I was previously getting. Given the average MPG increase and the current cost of fuel being about 4 bucks a gallon, my "break even" point where I'm actually in the green on this purchase should happen in about 8,500 miles... Not bad! I always like ROI's with less than a 9 month payback!!

The tubes inside the resonator are purely for sound control. Removing them won't change airflow characteristics in any significant way. Induction noise has trouble propagating around hard turns, so they design a labyrinth inside the airbox to reduce it just like some muffler designs on the other end.

With that giant piece of pleated paper in your way inside of a squared tube with wierd edges, any reduction in pumping effort from cutting one tube out will be pretty meaningless.

It is a cheaper way to get the sound of CAI though. I did it on my last two motorcycles...didn't like that they sounded like giant Honda sewing machines. :?

Here are pics of my Volant with Powecore install , on 5.6 V8:

This CAI is made for Armada/Titan 5.6 V8's.

12856 - comes with oil filter simular to K&N
128566 - comes with Davidsone Power Core Dry filter.

Here is some information i had to do to get it to fit. since this is kit is made for Titan/Armada: 5.6 V8's:

modifications i had to do. The bolt hole inside the filter box did not match to the hole on the pathy fender well. So either drill the bottom of the box plastic to match the pathy bolt hole or simply use sheetmetal self taping screws with washers and screw into the wheel well.
when you take off the OEM box, there is a bolt mount that is next to breaklines next to the fender wall. When you remove the oem box you will see the piece of metal sticking out wich has a nut welded to it where the oem box gets bolted to. It sticks out and it wont let you mount the box properly. What i did was, I used the grinder with metal cuting wheel and i cut it off. This will alow the box to sit nicely on the fender. Last thing you need to do is go to lowes or homedepot, and grab some 1 inch thick foam insulation tape. They sell them in the insulation isle for insulating windows, doors. there is going to be about inch inch and a half space between the fender intake hole opening and the air box opening. I used the foam tape, taped it all around the hole on the fender. Made 2 rows of tape one on top of the other to make it thicker. then mounted the box. this will give you a good air tight seal. Thats it."

can someone explain this nanotube filter they have to me?
does it ever need to be cleaned like a K&N?
does it keep everything out like a K&N?
Always used K&N in the past, tried and trusted for me so not sure about this new thing.
