I'm betting that at some point of my ownership, someone checked the filter while doing the oil and didn't get the lid on correctly. It's permanently bowed out now:

I hopped online & started looking at volant prices and came across a Frontier forum post where everyone is talking about the powercore causing error codes. I simply do not want another oiled filter ever again.
I have the Volant intake and its alot better then the K&N i had before. I ended up using a AEM dry filter and dust cover instead of the oiled one that came with it.

No problems with error codes/warning lights?

I just checked prices on a new box (lower portion) and am shocked that it would only be $13.00. I also need a new foam piece for the tube going into the wheel well, and that's only $11.00. Crap. I thought for sure the parts would price out to over $100 (center console change tray anyone?). So, ~$250 for the Volant or $24 for new parts that aren't warped yet.

That is exactly why I just bought a new bottom half of the airbox and just did K&N drop-in filter. One thing to do it to make sure it fits well and closed properly after dealer chacks the condition of the filter. They never bother to close it properly and it damage the box inthe process.

I bought the tube w/foam piece, but when I checked the price for the bottom box, it was far more than it was when I first looked. Must have been a typo, because it is now in line with Nissan pricing.

Volant CAI for V8?

Postby diavol » Wed May 30, 2012 10:50 am

@V8 owners, which Volant part are you using since they don't make them specifically for V8 pathfinders? Is the installation easier/harder with Volant CAI over K&N?

There are two opitions. They are the Armada/Titan versions.

128566

or
12856

The difference is the 100,000 mile dry filter on the 128566. I still have not bought one, but I would be going with the dry filter.

Thanks for the reply, I was seriously considering buying it for my pathy and was hoping to hear from other V8 owners that have installed it. From the titan forums it sounds like there are rattling/vibration issues. Maybe my money will be better spent on a performance tuner...

Are there any updates to MPGs or issues from those members who have installed these CAIs?

Here's my review of the Volant CAI:
http://www.thenissanpath.com/viewtopic.php?p=50357

Slightly better MPG in certain situations, a little faster, fantastic sound, and no changing the filter for 100K miles nor filter-oil-on-the-MAF issues to worry about.

No issues with mine at all. compared to stock mpg.
I have a heavy foot.
I was getting same mpg with stock compared to my volant.
Since my foot is heavy I am getting only 11 to 12 mpg street/highway use.
if I drive long highway trips i can get 14 to 15.
I can tell you after I changed to dual flex a lite electric radiator fans I gained 1.5 to 2 mpg's and for a V8 man its so quiet now. and in cold weather it gets to run temperature much quicker.
I am getting Uprev tuner programer package and will have one of my dyno tunes, tuned for 87 octane economy tune wich will improove mpg with all the mods i have.

I added more information about the 5.6 V8 Volant instalation for 08-12 pathfinders. part #'s and modification neaded to be done to get it installed.

To my original post on 2nd page of this thread. her is the mod info:

Here is some information i had to do to get it to fit. since this is kit is made for Titan/Armada: 5.6 V8's:

modifications i had to do. The bolt hole inside the filter box did not match to the hole on the pathy fender well. So either drill the bottom of the box plastic to match the pathy bolt hole or simply use sheetmetal self taping screws with washers and screw into the wheel well.
when you take off the OEM box, there is a bolt mount that is next to breaklines next to the fender wall. When you remove the oem box you will see the piece of metal sticking out wich has a nut welded to it where the oem box gets bolted to. It sticks out and it wont let you mount the box properly. What i did was, I used the grinder with metal cuting wheel and i cut it off. This will alow the box to sit nicely on the fender. Last thing you need to do is go to lowes or homedepot, and grab some 1 inch thick foam insulation tape. They sell them in the insulation isle for insulating windows, doors. there is going to be about inch inch and a half space between the fender intake hole opening and the air box opening. I used the foam tape, taped it all around the hole on the fender. Made 2 rows of tape one on top of the other to make it thicker. then mounted the box. this will give you a good air tight seal. Thats it."

Diff. Between Dry and K&N filters

Postby forgottenzone » Thu Nov 22, 2012 8:12 pm

Sure.
Power Core dry filter unique design has alot more surface volume then any other filter design inclooding K&N filters.
Wich means it takes long time to get cloged and thats why it lasts up to 100,000 miles. on top of that it doesnot affect the MAF sensor.
K&N or any other oil filters can damage the MAF sensor wich will give out the wrong readings to the ECU. Damage can come from the Oil collecting from the filter onto the sensor element.
Rogue9 wrote:can someone explain this nanotube filter they have to me?
does it ever need to be cleaned like a K&N?
does it keep everything out like a K&N?
Always used K&N in the past, tried and trusted for me so not sure about this new thing.
