WINTER IS HERE & MY HEAT SUX!

Postby kennynnek » Fri Dec 09, 2016 7:51 pm

ive seen a post about this last year but im not sure where it went, im looking for tips as to get my heat to work at idle like when i let my path warm up in the morning.
it continues to blow out cold air until im going at a good rate of speed 40-45ish then it heats up.
is there any other fixes other than the radiator burp?? :?:  thnx!

if it helps, during the summer my pathy doesnt blow very cold air either unless im going at a good speed

I had this problem very recently and found that it was air in the system. After I got all the air out it blows so hot, even at -40C here in Alberta like it is right now, that I have to turn down the heat.

I waited till it was cool, opened the rad cap and added coolant till it would stop taking any, then run and add the same time. I found that giving the top rad hope some slight squeezes and taps let out a bunch of little bubbles out. Topped up the catch can and ran it. DONE!

Also the space right in front of the air box behind the head light is the perfect size to put your coolant bottle with whatever you have left in case you need it on the run. I keep mine there :D

Most of the time, there's air in the system that needs to be purged out, assuming there is not a coolant leak. Once in a while, you run into a bad heater pump. It sits on a bracket on the driver's side of the firewall and has two wires going to it. It's job is to help circulate the coolant through the heater system.

I used to have the issue in our 2009 Pathy that you could leave it running and it would not start putting out heat until you started to drive it.

Took it to the dealer and they told me the air pocket thing. So I finally went to a honest local shop and told them the story. they looked and said the reason it wasn't working is the coolant was to low. This is after years of bringing it to the Nissan dealer for oil changes and such.....seriously?

The shop filled the coolant up and it works great now before driving it. Love the honest guys, not the crappy Nissan dealers.

Update: had a crack in my little plastic connector gizmo by my firewall and then just gave it as light wiggle and it just popped off, not just the hose but the plastic connector with it.. :) so atleast it fell off while i was checking it out and not while i was driving. Gonna go grab this $260 part real quick, be up and running again soon

So to reassure on the process:

Cold engine
Lift front of truck
Heat to full blast, but fan on low
Open the main rad cap, NOT the reserve cap
Add fluid to main rad til full
Run engine to get it to warm, with a few engine revs
Continue to fill until?????

That's where I can't find definite answer, as I don't want to somehow overfill.

Thx

I would suggest EXTREME CAUTION when filling coolant directly to radiator with WARM engine!!! You can easily crack the radiator due to temperature difference if you sip cold coolant into warm radiator!

So either pre-heat cooalant before using it for such a purpose (for example, put coolant bottle in a bucket full of very hot water)...
...or refill through reservoir, not directly into rad.
